Looking for furries in all the wrong places....

Tribe was such a wonderful resource... About 3 years ago. It seems to have gone the way of friendster. We can only hope that myspace and facebook soon suffer the same short attention span.

Anyways, I digress. Your best option for finding about local furry events is the Bay Area Furries mailing list. Granted, most of the events are not that exciting and involve furries practicing their anti-social skills at things called "chicken" and "munches". Don't get me wrong, there's alot of great people on that list, and it's a good place for networking with other furries, just don't get your expectations up thinking that somewhere in the bay, there's an awesome cool furry event happening every weekend. The best events happen sparingly, but they are there. Some are also niche and while one person might enjoy fursuiting for kids at the Mountain View Parade, another fur might completely hate that and much prefer a little bdsm animal role play at a sex club in SF (both recent events).

Aside from the carnivore fiesta (aka, dinner night at the local steak house), there's not really much happening. Occasionally, Critters By The Bay will host an event somewhere down south like bowling of hospital hopping. There's occasionally (but rarely) chatter on the BA fur Live Journal community. For the most part, it's either about the freaks or FurCon.
